Download the installer

GnuCOBOL ships a Windows installer from its GitHub releases page. Download the 64-bit setup file for the latest 3.x release.

Run the installer

Run the setup file and keep the defaults. The installer adds GnuCOBOL to your PATH, which is what lets every command prompt find cobc.

cobc --version

cobc --version

Open a fresh command prompt and check the compiler. The first line shows GnuCOBOL and the build date:

cobc --version
