Windows installer option
On Windows 11 the simplest path is the graphical installer option built for Windows. Look for the installer package named elixir-websetup in the release list.
That bundle installs Elixir together with Erlang/OTP, so you do not need a separate Erlang step. One installer gives you both runtimes ready for this course.
Run the installer
Run the downloaded package with a double click and accept the defaults. Step through each screen with Next until you reach Finish.
When it ends, both the elixir command and the Erlang runtime are on your machine. Open a new terminal so the fresh settings take effect.
elixir --version
Open a new terminal window and ask Elixir for its version. A new terminal matters because PATH changes load only in fresh windows.
elixir --version
Erlang/OTP 27 [erts-15.2] [64-bit]
Elixir 1.18.2 (compiled with Erlang/OTP 27)
If the command is not found, close every terminal window, open a new one, and try again.
PATH notes
The installer adds Elixir and Erlang to the user PATH so both commands work in new terminals. If you changed the install folder, keep the option that updates PATH.
Advanced users can also try version managers such as asdf/vfox as plain local tools, but the bundled installer is enough for this course.
